To be considered for a position with the VIPD, candidates must pass the Police Officer Written Exam, which is designed to measure cognitive ability, observational skills, and mental acuity. While passing the written test is mandatory, it is not a guarantee of a job.

Candidates may be waived from sitting the written examination; if the following criteria are met:

  • Possession of an associate, bachelor and master level degree from an accredited institution
  • All military veterans who served full military service with an honorable or general discharge listed on their DD214.
